Green Templeton Boat Club was established in 2008 after Green College and Templeton College merged. Before this, Templeton College had a close affiliation with Hertford College Boat Club, while Green College was associated with Osler House.
In Autumn 2008 a "founding committee" was setup in order for the club to be registered with the ARA (now British Rowing). The committee positions were as follows:
|
President |
Michael Smets |
|
Women's captain |
Jacqueline Cheng |
|
Men's captain |
Phillip Davies |
|
Secretary |
Richard McKay |
|
Treasurer |
Tom Karkinsky |
|
Safety Officer |
Mike Dudley |
|
Coxwains |
Derek Jewell |
|
Coaches |
Chris Adams |
|
Social and Publicity |
Maja Korica |
In Michaelmas 2008 GTBC then elected its first proper boat club committee, uder the presidency of Michael Smets. The new club received a club room and racking space at Longbridges boathouse, which had previously been co-owned by Templeton College. Osler/Green's eqiuipment and facilities went to Osler House, who have kept their positions in the men's and women's bumps-charts and continue to operate as an independent boat club.
Between 2008 and 2011 GTBC grew rapidly. In 2011 around one fifth of the 500 students at Green Templeton College rowed for GTBC for at least one term of their degree.
