GTBC Shines in Fours Head

Last Saturday GTBC 4hor womensent two crews to the Fours Head of the River, which is held annually on the Tideway in London. The 6.9km course is approximately the same as the one rowed by the Oxford and Cambridge Blues in the Boat Race, with the exception being that the race is run with the tide, as opposed to against it. The weather conditions were favourable and both GTBC crews performed incredibly well on the day. Full race results are attached to the end of this article.

The women's four was captained by Allison Stewart and Anna Seeley, and coached by Allan French. The boat comprised of Sheila Lumley (stroke), Nadine Levin (3), Melanie Bunce (2) and Anna Seeley (bow) and was coxed by Naomi Walker. They entered the W IM2 4+ category and, despite being the first head race for the GTBC women's squad, they put out an amazing performance, coming in 15th out of 46 crews in their division. They rowed the full course in 23m19s, a result that put them faster than many high-profile university crews, including two Cambridge University boats!

4horThe men entered the same four rowers that took part in the Head of the Charles, namely Henno Martin (stroke), Andrew Symington (3), Tyler Lane (2) and Eduardo Lopez (bow). They were coxed by Sean Grant, captained by Joe Feyertag and Tyler Lane, and coached by Alex Rhodes and Charlie Simpson. The boat was entered into the IM2 4+ category and rowed the course in 21m19s, putting them in position 32 of 65 crews. Overall it was a technically sound row, and the crew was pleased the result.

Finally, we'd like to thank GTBC for continually supporting our involvement in external regattas, and Furnivall Sculling Club in Hammersmith for hosting us on the day. Most importantly, we'd also like to thank everybody who came out to support our crews, despite the chilly weather. Especially, to the former women's captain, Yulia Stange, for coming along from Germany to surprise us on the day!
