Christ Church Regatta Update

crew-mbIn this magnificent beginning of the autumn, with no major weather disruptions affecting rowing, Green Templeton Boat Club has presented strong squads from both the men and women's sides at Christ Church regatta, the first major rowing event of the academic year.

Having started last Wednesday the 23rd, the two boats representing the men's squads had their respective races. GTC MB did a splendid job and beat Balliol MB with a verdict of easily. GTC MA was less fortunate, having rowed hard, was finally bested by the solid performance of St. Annes MA, sending them to the repechage round. On Thursday the 24th, the women's squad raced against Magdalen WA and delivered a convincing victory with 2 and a half lengths. GTC MA had their chance to come back from the previous defeat to beat Merton MB by a length in an exciting race. All crews, having made it to the second round of competition, were racing on Friday. GTC MB opened the day of racing with a convincing victory over Somerville MA, sending them to their next, now 3rd round race. Later on, they capitalized on that opportunity by beating Pembroke MC with a wide advantage. GTC MB is now on its way to the 4th round of the competition, being our first ever crew since the foundation of GTBC to make it to this round, on the Saturday of Christ Church regatta. GTC MA had a very exciting race against the Christ Church MA, but finally lost to them. A similar fate struck GTC WA in their competition against Somerville WA, loosing by a very narrow margin.

On Saturday GTC MB started the day advancing to the quarter finals, with a two-lengths victory over St. Benet's Hall, advancing one more stage to the quarterfinals, were they were finally beaten by New College, stroking at a considerable higher rate than GTC.

All crews will now celebrate their achievements at the regatta dinner, and event sure to produce yet more pictures! Congratulations to all the crews. Great springboard for the rest of the year.
